Education, by the numbers
What 27,500 tracked education apps reveal about how the category prices, concentrates, and competes — computed from public metadata, not estimated.
Free apps run the show in education: 17,744 of the 25,938 tracked titles, or 68.4%, cost nothing, leaving just 31.6% paid. Even so, the paid side has a bit of texture to it. 2,813 apps land in the $1–2.99 range, more than any other paid tier, which says something about how publishers price when they actually do charge money: cheap, impulse-friendly, nowhere near premium. Only 1,003 apps ask $10 or more, so high pricing stays a minority move even within the slice that isn't free.
Ratings lay bare a real gap between how many apps a publisher pumps out and how many people actually notice. TAKAYUKI OOTA tops the publisher list with 93 apps and, remarkably, 0 ratings. Masaki Kobayashi mirrors that exact pattern (87 apps, 0 ratings), and so do satoshi yoshida (61 apps, 0 ratings) and RYOHEI HORIUCHI (59 apps, 0 ratings). The publishers who do pull in some numbers still barely register: RUMAHSAKU CORP. has 927 ratings spread across 66 apps, and EuroTalk has 3,444 across 58 apps, and neither one clears 0.1% of category ratings. Add up the top three publishers by app count and together they still hold less than 0.1% of every rating in the category. Cranking out titles doesn't buy you an audience in Education.
A small handful of apps soak up nearly all the attention, and they do it at a massive scale. Duolingo: Language Lessons has piled up 5,368,369 ratings on its own. ClassDojo comes next with 3,942,634, then Canvas by Instructure at 2,768,261, 一起作业(原一起小学学生) at 2,376,044, and Remind: School Communication at 1,774,896. Stack that against a category total of 63,944,103 ratings, and these five apps alone are carrying a huge chunk of all engagement. Language learning, classroom communication, school logistics: that's the common thread, and it points to where the real payoff lives. It's not about having a sprawling catalog. It's about becoming the thing students, teachers, or schools genuinely lean on.
