Free still dominates in Books. 4,474 of the 5,401 tracked apps, or 82.9%, won't cost you a thing, leaving 926 paid titles, about 17.1%, on the other side. When publishers do put a price tag on something, they tend to land in the middle of the range rather than at the extremes. The $1 to $2.99 band holds 310 apps, the largest paid tier by a wide margin, ahead of $3 to $4.99 at 233, $5 to $9.99 at 137, $10+ at 92, and the thin $0.01 to $0.99 tier at 154. Most publishers who do charge settle for a modest one-time fee. Going premium at $10+ is still rare; only 92 apps take that route.

A small group of publishers is responsible for a huge chunk of the category's app count, but that output barely correlates with how many people actually use the apps. ISLAMOBILE leads the pack with 56 apps and just 667 ratings. Arun Soundarrajan comes next with 50 apps and only 90 ratings. DOT BEYOND SRL has 47 apps for a mere 26 ratings. Put all three together and they still don't crack 0.1% of the category's 39,024,186 total ratings. siriwit nambutdee's 46 apps and Elyahu Sheetrit's 46 apps land in that same sliver. Oleg Shukalovich is the exception, turning 44 apps into 373,741 ratings, roughly 1% of the category total. Volume and rating share just don't track together here, and that mismatch is basically the whole story behind this category's long tail.

People concentrate their attention on a handful of standout apps rather than spreading it across any one publisher's lineup. Amazon Kindle: Reading App (5,762,458 ratings) and Audible: Audiobooks & Podcasts (5,563,345 ratings) each outweigh, on their own, the combined app count of the top three publishers. Libby, the library app (4,420,809 ratings), 喜马拉雅「听书社区」电台有声小说相声评书 (4,167,932 ratings), and ピッコマ (1,548,486 ratings) fill out the leaderboard, and every one of them is built around reading, listening, or library lending rather than a sprawling catalog. The category's median rating sits at 4.6, and 3,680 of the 5,401 tracked apps carry public ratings at all. A handful of focused platforms soak up most of the attention in Books, while thousands of other listings divide up whatever's left.

Bar length is each publisher's share of ratings; the app count beside it shows how few apps that reach can rest on. Publishers are the store's own IDs — corporate parents are not merged, so concentration reads conservative.

What this report cannot tell you
We measure public listing metadata: prices, ratings, sizes, publishers. We cannot see downloads, revenue, active users, or retention, and we do not estimate them. Ratings reflect lifetime accumulation, not current popularity, and in-app pricing is invisible to us.
