What the Leader's Reviews Actually Say

Tao Te Ching Lao Tzu sits at #1 on this board with a file size of only 417 KB, the smallest of anything in the top 100. But the 101 reviews behind that ranking tell a rockier story: sentiment is down at 0.35 and still dropping. Reviewers keep circling back to the same handful of things translations, navigation, app update, wisdom, favorites, and there's a strange irony buried in that last pair. An app built around a text about letting go now has a pile of reviews about an update nobody seems willing to let go of.

The complaint isn't baseless either. Several translations got pulled, and while some reviewers say what's left reads as nonsensical, others simply miss features that used to be there. People clearly still care about this app, but that goodwill is fraying right as it holds the top spot on the whole list.

The Shape of the Top 100

Look at raw file size and the front of this list drops off fast, and that's before anything even crosses a full megabyte. Tao Te Ching Lao Tzu comes in at 417 KB. Starling Home Hub, a fresh face in the top ten now sitting at #2, weighs in at 634 KB. Background Eraser Pro takes #3 at 787 KB. Three apps in, and not one of them has broken 1 MB. By the time you hit #100 the board maxes out at 5.7 MB, which is still tiny by normal app standards, but that stretch from 417 KB up to 5.7 MB is where the real spread on this list lives, wider than the front of the pack would have you believe.

Thomas Tsopanakis is the only developer who shows up more than once, landing 5 times across the top 100, including Percentages Calculator at #17 and SMS Templates - Text Messages at #24. Everybody else appears exactly once. This isn't a board dominated by a studio pumping out variations on a theme. It's mostly scattered, one-off apps that happened to stay small and stay well-liked, plus one developer who's managed to pull that off five separate times.

One Crown Change, Otherwise Frozen

The crown passed from Goblin Tools to Tao Te Ching Lao Tzu back in July 2026, and that's the only handoff we've logged across 64 days of tracking. Past that one shift, the top of the board has barely moved: average movement across the top ten over that same stretch works out to just 0.6 places. Starling Home Hub grabbing #2 is really the only shake-up worth mentioning; everything else holds its position day after day.

So you've got a leader that looks locked in from a structural standpoint, even as things shift underneath it in the reviews. A 64 day hold on #1 looks like dominance if you're just glancing at the numbers. Spend time with those 101 reviews, though, and it starts to look more like a lead coasting on inertia while the sentiment score keeps sliding lower.
