A New Face Arrives Already Wearing the Crown

What jumps out on this board isn't the size of the numbers, it's how quickly one app grabbed the top spot. 抖音, Beijing Douyin Technology's short-video app, cracked the top ten for the first time and didn't bother easing in around #9 or #5. It went straight to #1 with 52.1M ratings, bypassing the slow climb most apps have to grind through on their way up. This board reflects years of accumulated ratings, where rank is normally earned in small steps across many update cycles. An entrance like this almost never happens.

The change at the top is also recent. YouTube held the lead until 抖音 passed it in July 2026, the only handoff anywhere in the tracked period. Since then, 抖音 has held #1 on 6 of the last 13 tracked days, so the top spot is still up for grabs. YouTube sits close behind at 48.3M ratings, close enough that the gap to #2 is only 3.8M, a thin margin considering both apps have banked tens of millions.

The Rest of the Top Ten Tells a Steadier Story

Below the top two, things look a lot more familiar: apps that built their totals over years, not weeks. Spotify holds #3 with 41.2M ratings, followed by Instagram at 29.3M and Facebook at 27.4M. These numbers suggest steady, near-universal use rather than any sudden spike. DoorDash breaks that pattern at #7 with 22.7M, a food-delivery app holding its own against video, social, and streaming giants. Daily habitual use, it turns out, can build ratings just as effectively as global entertainment reach.

Movement across the rest of the top ten stayed minor, averaging 1.7 places per app over the tracked window. That's part of why 抖音's leap to #1 stands out so sharply against the otherwise gradual shuffling beneath it. Roblox holds #9 and TikTok rounds out the list at #10. TikTok and 抖音 share a corporate parent, but this board tracks them separately, with separate totals.

Where the Long Tail Falls Away

The gap between the top of this board and its tail is enormous. The app sitting at #100 holds 3.8M ratings, meaning the leader has collected roughly fourteen times as many ratings as the app closing out the top 100. The median app in that same top 100 also falls well short of the leaders: #1 sits at 8.3× the median, a figure that says a lot about how concentrated the top of this board really is. Further down the list, one developer keeps popping up again and again: Shenzhen Tencent Tianyou Technology Ltd appears 5 times in the top 100, more than any other maker on this board, even though none of its apps crack the top ten.
