Twenty-Five Countries, Three Apps Tied

Right now nobody actually owns the top spot outright. Duolingo: Language Lessons, Procreate Pocket, and AnkiMobile Flashcards are all charting in 25 countries, so whoever gets called #1 depends on tiebreak rules rather than any real lead. That feels strange for a board that's supposed to just count countries, since you'd think there'd be some daylight between rank one and everyone else. A language app, a drawing app, and a flashcard app have almost nothing in common except that a lot of people, in a lot of places, happen to have them open at the same time.

Drop down one spot and the gap barely widens. YouTube, Google, and Gmail - Email by Google are all tied at 24, just one country behind the leaders. One country is the entire distance between a global phenomenon and a near-miss. Keep scrolling and the gap stays tight: by rank 25, Tasty Travels: Merge Game is still holding 23 countries, so the whole top 25 is squeezed into a two-country band. This board rewards apps that pop up everywhere at modest numbers, not ones that crush it in a handful of markets.

Google's repeat problem (in a good way)

Google shows up 8 times in the top 100. That count includes the Google app itself, YouTube, Gmail - Email by Google, Google Maps, and Google Gemini, and each one is charting on its own merits with its own country total rather than just riding the parent brand. Nobody else comes close to that kind of repetition. Playrix gets nearest, with Township, Homescapes: Match 3 Games, and Gardenscapes all sitting in the low twenties.

What this board really tracks is two things at once: how far an app reaches, and how far a company reaches. Landing five separately charting apps in the top 100 is a win built on distribution muscle, not one breakout hit. That's a different flavor of dominance than Duolingo's, and nothing else here matches it.

The crown has been restless

Duolingo: Language Lessons didn't open at the top either. Over the tracked window it went from 23 countries to the 25 it sits at now, an actual climb rather than a reshuffle, and it's held the #1 spot for 47 of the last 48 tracked days. But underneath that streak, the crown itself has changed hands 23 times during the same stretch. Nothing about this board is settled, even with one app looking dominant on paper.

YouTube's jump into the top ten is the clearest sign that things are still moving. It's new to the group and already parked at #4, and across the same window, top-ten positions have shifted by an average of 4.3 places. Nothing up there feels locked in. With three apps tied for first, the next swap could come down to a single country gained or lost.

What Duolingo's reviews actually say

The leader's 700 reviews read as positive, not adoring. Sentiment sits at 0.32 and hasn't moved much. People praise the language lessons and the streak mechanic, then turn around in the same review and complain about the app icon, the ads, or the subscription setup. This is a leader that wins through reach, not universal affection. Charting in 25 countries just means people haven't stopped opening the app, not that all 25 of those countries are fans.
