Most Expensive Per Megabyte

The Crown Just Changed Hands

Soundboard Studio Pro is now sitting at #1, priced at $53.82 per megabyte. It took that spot in August 2026 from Шансон Радио FM Hi-Fi, closing out that app's stretch at the top. This particular throne has only switched hands twice in the whole period we've been tracking, and this is the second handoff. Soundboard Studio Pro has now logged 25 of the last 66 tracked days at #1, which is a quick rise for something that wasn't even inside the top ten before this run started.

Eleven reviewers describe it as functional, decent for triggering sounds, nothing fancier than that. But one word keeps popping up in the feedback: price. Sentiment sits at a mixed 0.30 and has stayed there, which reads less like enthusiasm and more like grudging tolerance of the cost. Complaints about delay, compatibility, and support round out the list, which is a lot of friction for an app whose whole job is making a sound play.

What $53.82 a Megabyte Actually Looks Like Next to Everyone Else

The jump from #1 to #2 is steep. Шансон Радио FM Hi-Fi comes in at $18.79, so the leader is charging almost three times as much per megabyte as the app right below it. The numbers keep sliding after that: SnapType Pro at $17.38, Duct Calculator at $13.17, Air Sketch Wireless Whiteboard at $8.79. By the time you get to #100, the rate has dropped to $1.72, meaning the leader is charging 31 times more per megabyte than whatever sits at the bottom of this list.

What this board traces isn't a smooth curve, it's a cliff with a long tail dragging behind it. Across the full top 100, the spread runs to 19.2 times the median value, which says a lot about how far the typical app falls short of the leader's extreme. Soundboard Studio Pro is the outlier that breaks whatever pattern the rest of the field tries to settle into.

One Developer, Two Whiteboards

Qrayon, LLC shows up twice in the top ten, holding Air Sketch Wireless Whiteboard at #5 ($8.79) and AirSketch Pro at #8 ($7.74). Same category, same maker, and the two entries land less than a dollar per megabyte apart from each other. That's two spots on a board built entirely around tiny downloads with bold price tags, held by one developer. David Arthur turns up five separate times across the full top 100, though none of those land inside the top 25 shown here. That kind of repetition says something about what this board rewards: small, purpose-built tools from developers who understand exactly how little disk space they need before they can charge a premium for it.

What This Board Actually Rewards

This board isn't really ranking expensive apps, it's ranking small ones with unusually confident price tags. Word Vault Pro, MathStudio, Number Therapy: none of these are big downloads, and none of their prices would raise an eyebrow if you saw them sitting alone in the App Store. But divide dollars by megabytes and the whole ranking turns into a leaderboard for apps priced as though size were the only cost worth counting. Size isn't the only cost that matters, obviously. And somewhere in the middle of all this math, there's an app charging $53.82 a megabyte just to trigger sounds.
